How many times have you heard world leaders or politicians talk about ushering in a “New World Order”?
Their “new world order” is just an old idea in new packaging. Man has always tried to create a “new world” as long as he can leave God out of it. This scheme goes as far back as Genesis chapter 11 and the Tower of Babel. But man’s consolidated efforts to build his own paradise didn’t end very well, did it?
In this study we’re going to contrast God’s plan, already at work, for a New World Order from the one secularists are attempting to cobble together. In His time and sovereignty, God is bringing it about. His “New World Order” has everything and more than the world has tried to gin up on its own.
When Jesus Christ began His public ministry two thousand years ago, events were set in motion that would turn the old world order on its ear.
God was up to something completely revolutionary. But could they accept it?
Turn to Acts 15 and read the dramatic story in verses 1 through 21.
This was a decisive moment in Christian history. The church faced a dilemma: Gentiles were coming to Jesus Christ. Some people from Judea had hustled themselves over to the new Gentile believers in Antioch, insisting that if a Gentile were to be saved, he must not only take Christ as Savior but also follow the rituals of circumcision and the Law. Serious dissension ensued. The elders back home in Jerusalem called a meeting. Today we know it as “the Jerusalem Council.”
A CLOSER LOOK AT “THE JERUSALEM COUNCIL”
They met not much more than 15 years after the resurrection. Everybody who was anybody in the early church was there: James, the half-brother of Jesus, held the gavel. Peter spoke. Paul and Barnabas each had their turn at the podium. James brought the meeting in for a landing.
A great deal was at stake. What would have been good news elsewhere (people were getting saved!) threw the church into a quandary. Gentiles were coming to know the Lord, but the Jerusalem church thought Christianity was a Jewish thing. What was the will of the Lord in this? What was God up to? Is our salvation based upon the atoning death of Jesus and His resurrection? Or do we have to perform a work (like circumcision or following the Law) to be saved? It was crucial to get this settled.
First, the Apostle Peter stood up and made it clear (verses 7-11) that whether Jew or Gentile, all are saved through faith in Christ, not following Old Testament rituals.
Then Paul and Barnabas reported in (v. 12): God had done great miracles among these Gentiles.
James followed with his address to the group (v. 13-19). Reminding the believers of Amos’ prophecy, James helped move the council to a decision that reflected the mind of God. It was clear: in Christ alone we have salvation.
It was a new day. A “new world order” was established for everyone in Israel and the Gentile world that a relationship with God is only possible through accepting His Son Jesus as Messiah—Savior and Lord. Nothing more, nothing less.
1. You are still in Acts 15. Look at verses 13 through 19.
Peter has just finished speaking (v. 7-11), giving an impassioned plea that the Council realize God has accepted these Gentile believers, making no distinction between them and the Jewish brethren.
James goes back to the prophets and reminds the believers that God has a plan for the church, both Jew and Gentile.
Fill in some key words.
13 And after they [everyone in the meeting] had held their peace, James [the half-brother of Jesus and leader of the Jerusalem church] answered, saying, “Men and brethren, hearken unto me:
14 Simeon [Simon Peter—the Apostle] hath declared how God at the first did visit the Gentiles, to _____ _____ ____ _____ a people ____ His __________ [This is the Church]
15 And to this ___________ the words of the ____________ as it is written,
[Here, James quotes the prophet Amos in Amos 9:11-12, who is prophesying Gods future plan for the Jews: when the church is taken out, then God will begin to work again to restore national Israel. ]
16 After this I will ____________
and will _________ ________the _________________ of David, which is fallen down;
and I will _________ ________ again the _______ thereof,
and I will set it up:
17 That the residue of men might seek after the Lord,
and all the ___________ upon whom My name is __________
saith the Lord, who doeth all these things.
18 ___________ unto ______ are all his _________ from the beginning of the world. [God’s plan has been known to Him from the beginning of the world, right on.]
19 Wherefore my [James’] sentence is, that we trouble not them, which from among the Gentiles are turned to God:
a. Who is initiating this new day—man or God?
b. How long had this plan been in place? (v. 18.)
The Phillips version clarifies James’ declaration.
13 Silence again followed their words, and then James made this reply:
“Men and brothers, listen to me.14 Symeon has shown how in the first place God chose a people from among the nations who should bear His name [the Jews]. 15 This is in full agreement with what the prophets wrote, as in this scripture:
16 ‘After this I will return and will rebuild the tabernacle of David [the rule of David, the throne of David, which after its restoration would be the place where David’s greater Son, the Lord Jesus, would rule from] which has fallen down. I will rebuild its ruins, and I will set it up, 17 so that the rest of mankind [everyone not a Jew] may seek the Lord, even all the Gentiles who are called by My name, says the Lord who does all these things. 18 Known to God from eternity are all His works.’ [God has had this plan from the beginning.]
19 “I am firmly of the opinion that we should not put any additional obstacles before any Gentiles who are turning towards God.
What is the point of all this? It was critical to the Christian faith that the Jerusalem church, the home church, the mother church of the faith, settle the matter:
Would people outside the nation of Israel be welcomed into God’s family without adopting the Law?
The answer was yes. The Law was only a shadow, a type, that pointed to Jesus.
It was a new day, a completely new era. God crafted this plan and had it in mind all along. Now He had implemented it. God was no longer dealing with mankind through keeping the Law but through His Son. Jesus Christ was and is the way, the truth and the life.
Followers of Christ, both Jew and Gentile, were coming to understand and adjust to a new paradigm. By sending His Son, the atonement for sin, God established a New World Order for every people group on earth; Jew and Gentile would be equals.
Four key things we must understand and take to heart:
God has a plan for this world.
He has a plan for the Church.
He has a plan for the Jew.
He has a plan for the Gentile.
There is no panic in heaven, only plans.
The New World Order man ties to construct is not new. It’s the old disorder that’s been in the world since Genesis 3 and will be here until Jesus returns.
Nations rise and fall, power centers change, national boundaries shift (the Russian takeover of Crimea, for example), refugees overwhelm neighboring countries, Islamic radicals move in to vacuums, and there is devastation, famine, war and chaos in many nations.
We cannot make a cosmos out of chaos because, as C.S. Lewis said, “You can’t make a good omelet out of bad eggs.” The more we stir the bad eggs, the more we try to arrange things, the worse it gets.
But behind it all is Almighty God. “Known unto God are all His works from the beginning of the world.” If we don’t understand this, we’ll get very discouraged.
Politically, nation rises against nation, threatening one another.
Religiously, false cults and cultic craziness seem to be exploding.
Morally, we’ve bottomed out in the cesspool of iniquity.
All while politicians talk about a “new world order.”
Four things are out of place, and until they get into place, this world will never come to order.
The Church is Out of Place.
The Bride belongs with the Groom
A CLOSER LOOK AT “THE BRIDE OF CHRIST”
The imagery of the church being the bride of Christ comes from Middle Eastern weddings. The groom takes the initiative. He would then pay a price, a dowry, for his bride. That’s the way it is with the Lord Jesus Christ. He took the initiative for His bride, the Church. You and I have been purchased by the heavenly Bridegroom. As the hymn “The Church’s One Foundation” says,
“From heaven He came and sought her to be His holy bride. With His own blood He bought her, and for her life, He died.”
After He purchased us, He gave us a token of His faithfulness, the Holy Spirit, given to us on the day of Pentecost.
In a Middle Eastern wedding of that day, the Bridegroom would then return home to prepare a new dwelling place for his bride within his father’s household. When all was ready, he would then return to take his bride and the marriage ceremony would begin. We see part of that dramatized in Jesus’ parable about the 5 wise and 5 foolish bridesmaids (Matthew 25:1-13).
3. Turn to 2 Corinthians 11:2. The Apostle Paul founded the Corinthian church and it was special to him. Writing to this church, he said,
For I am jealous over you with a godly jealousy, for I have _____________ you to one ___________ that I may present you a chaste [pure] virgin to ________
Paul had been the “matchmaker” in Corinth, teaching first in the synagogue, then when he met with opposition, moving next door to the home of Titius Justus as he introduced both Jews and Gentiles to the Savior. Paul was ever vigilant in watching over the Church he helped birth in in Corinth.
4. Turn to Ephesians 1 verses 13 and 14. Speaking of Jesus, it says,
In whom [Jesus] ye also trusted, after that ye heard the Word of truth, the Gospel of your salvation, in whom also after that ye believed, ye were ___________ with that Holy Spirit of ______________ which is the earnest [sign, token] of our inheritance.
In the Amplified Bible it reads:
In Him, you also, when you heard the word of truth, the good news of your salvation, and [as a result] believed in Him, were stamped with the seal of the promised Holy Spirit [the One promised by Christ] as owned and protected [by God].
As a groom gives his fiancé an engagement ring as a token of his commitment, the Lord Jesus left with His bride, the Church, the Holy Spirit as the sign of His promise.
The Phillips translation helps us see how wonderful this is:
11-14 And here is the staggering thing—that in all which will one day belong to Him, we have been promised a share (since we were long ago destined for this by the one who achieves His purposes by His sovereign will), so that we, as the first to put our confidence in Christ, may bring praise to His glory! And you too trusted Him, when you heard the message of truth, the Gospel of your salvation. And after you gave your confidence to Him you were, so to speak, stamped with the promised Holy Spirit as a guarantee of purchase, until the day when God completes the redemption of what He has paid for as His own; and that will again be to the praise of His glory.
Our Lord sought us, bought us, then gave us the Holy Spirit who dwells in us.
Where does the Church, the bride of Christ, belong? With her bridegroom.
But thing are out of place, Heretical teachings and apostasy have crept in. In some places wolves are fleeing the sheep. Instead of salvation by grace through faith, some churches—even large denominations—teach “works doctrine”—you must do this or that to be saved. Right now we, the church, the blood-bought bride of the Lord Jesus Christ, are not with the Bridegroom. Spiritually, through the Holy Spirit, He is in us, but we are not by His side.
The all-consuming purpose of the Father is to present the church, the bride, to His Son, and that’s not happened yet. We the Church are now engaged to the Savior but He has not yet come for His bride.
5. We are not with our bridegroom now, but we will be. At a time set only by God,
Jesus will come for His bride. We will be raptured.
Turn to 1 Corinthians 15:51-52 KJV
Behold, I show you a ______________ We shall not all sleep [die]; but we shall all be _________________ In a ______________ in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the _____________ shall sound, and the _______ shall be ____________ incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
Listen very carefully, I tell you a mystery [a secret truth decreed by God and previously hidden, but now revealed]; we will not all sleep [in death], but we will all be [completely] changed [wondrously transformed], in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at [the sound of] the last trumpet call. For a trumpet will sound, and the dead [who believed in Christ] will be raised imperishable, and we will be [completely] changed [wondrously transformed].
6. Turn to 1 John 3:2
Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we ________ be: but we know that, when He shall ___________ we _______ ___ _______ Him; for we shall _____ Him as he is.
Beloved, we are [even here and] now children of God, and it is not yet made clear what we will be [after His coming]. We know that when He comes and is revealed, we will [as His children] be like Him, because we will see Him just as He is [in all His glory].
a. Who will we be like?
b. How will this happen?
You and I are scheduled for a complete makeover. We have this to look forward to.
7. Turn to Revelation 19:7-8. Here the Bible describes that time when the marriage of the Lamb will take place and the Church, His bride, will be by the Bridegroom’s side:
Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honor unto Him: for the _____________ of the L_____ is come, and His _______ hath made herself ready. And to her was granted that ____ ___________ ____ _____________ ___ ______ ________,, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness [righteous acts] of the ___________
As the bride, we will be prepared for our Lord Jesus Christ through:
Redemption: the inner beauty that comes with salvation, when we receive the nature
of the Lord.
Rapture: We’re going to receive transformed bodies and be made like the Lord
Rewards: God rewards us for our service. The Bible says our wedding gown is going
to be created from the righteous acts of the saints.
So what’s wrong with the world? The church right now is out of place.
You are out of place. This world is not our home! A fugitive runs away from home. A vagabond has no home. A stranger is away from home. But a pilgrim is headed home. We’re pilgrims, headed home. We belong by the Bridegroom’s side.
There will be no world order until the Bride of Christ is with the Groom.
The People, Israel, Are Out of Place
The owner belongs in the land
Not only does the bride belong by her groom’s side, but the Jews, the descendants of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, rightful owners of the land of Israel, belong in the land.
There will never be world order until Israel is restored to her land and there is peace in Jerusalem.
What is happening in the Holy Land right now is what the Bible prophesied would happen—in the last days, Jerusalem will be the international hot spot.
Remember, God is not finished with the Jewish nation. They are still the chosen people.
The Jewish people occupy only part of the land God gave to them as an everlasting possession. They are out of place. The world will never be in order until the rightful owner is restored to the land. Today we see only a part of that being fulfilled.
This section (II.) of our study is a full study all by itself. We’re setting this portion aside and will study it in full next month. If you want to know what God says about who the rightful owners are of the land of Canaan, which some call Palestine, please check back here on May 1st for that complete study and Scriptural confirmation.
There will be no world order until the Bride of Christ is with the Groom
and the rightful owner is in his land.
Satan is Out of Place
The criminal belongs in prison
Here is the third reason we’re not going to have a new world order until the things that are out of place get into place. Satan is out of place.
Many people believe the devil is sitting around in hell, scheming up diabolical plans. The devil is NOT in hell! Not at all. The Bible teaches that Satan is right now roaming the earth. His time for being cast into Hell has not yet come.
8. Turn to Job chapter 1. See verses 6 and 7.
6 Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and _________ came also __________them.
7 And the Lord said unto Satan, “Whence comest thou?” Then Satan answered the Lord, and said, “From going to and fro in the _________ and from ___________ ____ _____ _______in it.”
Satan is hardly chained up in Hell!
a. In v. 6, we learn he strolled right into ____________
b. And in verse 7 he reports he’s been wandering around ______________
Don’t misunderstand—God didn’t ask Satan this question because He didn’t know where Satan had been or what he’d been up to. God is omniscient. He engaged the devil in this conversation because He was maneuvering the devil into taking an action that would ultimately bring God Himself great glory and produce the book of Job, which has been a source of comfort to God’s people down through the ages.
9. Turn to Ephesians 2:2.
… according to the prince of the power of the _____ the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:
Satan is not just at work on earth, but through his demonic forces is also working against God in the heavenly realms.
a. What is wrong with the people of this world? What grips the “children of disobedience?
The world stumbles in darkness, and this darkness has been orchestrated by the prince of darkness and the prince of confusion, who is Satan himself. Confirmation Scripture:
b. Turn to Second Corinthians 4:4
“The _____ of this world hath_________ the ________ of them that believe not.”
10. In Daniel 10 (turn there), we see a startling event. You can read beginning in verse 1. Gabriel, one of God’s archangels, arrives in Daniel’s room in the capital city of Persia. Gabriel explains that in coming to answer Daniel’s prayer he’s been delayed by satanic forces in the heavenly realms, and the archangel Michael had to help him defeat them before he could come to Daniel. Note this amazing passage:
11 And he said unto me, “O Daniel, a man greatly beloved, understand the words that I speak unto thee, and stand upright: for unto thee am I now sent.” And when he had spoken this word unto me, I stood trembling.
12 Then said he unto me, “Fear not, Daniel: for from the _______ _____ that thou didst set thine heart to understand, and to chasten thyself before thy God, ____ _______ ______ _________, and I am come for thy words.
13 “But the ____________ of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief ___________, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia.
a. What word does Gabriel call both God’s angelic officers and those who operate under Satan’s command?
Gabriel isn’t talking about human “kings of Persia,” but about satanic forces given power to affect and manipulate certain geographic areas, strategically placed there by Satan.
11. The Apostle Peter warned in a letter to the early churches:
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, ____________ about, seeking whom he may devour: (1 Peter 5:98).
That makes twice we’ve seen the imagery of Satan “walking about” the earth, and he is always looking for his next victim. Thus Peter warns, “Be sober! Be vigilant!”
12. Turn to First John 5:10.
And we know that we are of God, and the whole world ______ in wickedness.”
The word “wickedness” with a masculine ending may be translated “the wicked one.” The word lieth means it is cuddled in the bosom of Satan. Satan has this world in his arms, and the spirit of Satan is at work through the people of this world. You’re never going to get order out of this world as long as Satan’s spirit is working.
13. In Genesis 4:7, God says to Cain,
“If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin crouches at your door; its ___________ is for you, but you must master it.” (Amplified)
Most versions use the term “crouching.”
Sin is described here with the characteristics of a person:
There is a school of prophecy called “amillennialism” that says Satan is already chained. Well, friend, if he’s chained, he’s got a mighty long chain around his neck.
Peter compares him to a lion prowling. God warns Cain he is “crouching.” The image is clear, and when Scripture speaks of Satan’s activity on earth, notice it’s in the present, active tense.
12. Turn to Matthew 25:41.
“Then shall He say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into ______________________ fire, prepared for the ____________ and his angels.”
Well, relief will one day come. Satan is not always going to have the run of this world (up to what God permits and no further).
13. There’s coming a time when he is going to be cast where he belongs, in prison. Turn over to Revelation 20:10
And the ___________ that deceived them was _______ into the _______ of _______ and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night _____________ and ever.”
This is prophecy that has not yet been fulfilled, but the Apostle John, who was given this vision by God, sees it as though it has already been fulfilled. Satan will be cast into the lake of fire.
The Bible tells us he will one day be cast into the pit, and all those who follow him will be cast in there with him, but there is no world order until the criminal’s put in prison.
A CLOSER LOOK AT BEING CAST INTO HELL
One thing the world and those who object to the idea that there is a hell have has overlooked is this:
You don’t have to go to hell if you don’t want to. No one does. In fact, any human being who goes to hell will be an intruder. You see, Hell was not prepared for you. . It was prepared for the devil and his angels. 2 Peter 3:9 “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering toward us,, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”
There will be no world order until the bride is with the Groom, until the rightful owner is in his land, and until the criminal is in prison.
The King Is Not in Place
Jesus is not yet on His throne
There will be no world order until the King is on the throne. Jesus is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. In this world, there’s no room for the Lord Jesus Christ. He is an outcast. He’s been cast out of government, out of public education in America, and cast out of society. His name is a curse word. His people are mocked and ridiculed on television, in late Night comedy sketches, in academia.
Man has enthroned and enshrined himself in a material kingdom. Secular man cries out for a “new millennium,” a new world order,” a new perfect society.
John Lennon in his famous song “Imagine” outlines what for the secular humanist is his idea of Heaven. Have you paid attention to the lyrics?
Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people living for today…
Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people living life in peace,
You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope some day you'll join us
And the world will be as one…
It goes on—but notice that last line: “And the world will be as one.” We’re right back to Nimrod and the Tower of Babel. It’s the same attempt for thousands of years. People are intent on setting up their own little paradise without God. We will be our own God.
Satan at the core has never changed his tactics. He hasn’t needed to because man is always seeking to be his own God.
Instead of a magical millennium, we have pandemonium, because the King is not on His throne. People don’t want Jesus to rule over them.
14. Turn to Psalm 2.
(What a contrast to Psalm 1—“Blessed is the man who walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners…but his delight is in the law of the Lord…He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water who brings forth his fruit in his season.”
We go to the very next Psalm and see the opposite!)
I have pondered Psalm 2 many times and scribbled so much on it in my Bible I can hardly read the original words.
Psalm 2 speaks concerning those who cast away the Lord Jesus and say, “We don’t want anything to do with Him.” It’s the same mindset we see among the nations today and those of millennia ago.
The theme is God as the Supreme King, and He is going to set His anointed King (the Lord Jesus) on Mount Zion, from which Jesus will reign.
1 Why do the heathen _______ and the people _____________ a [hello, John Lennon] vain thing? 2 The _________ of the __________ set themselves, and the rulers take counsel _______________ ___________ the Lord, and against His anointed, saying 3 “Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.” 4 He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh. The Lord shall have them in derision.
a. God’s reaction to those rulers who rebel against him is to _________________
And no wonder, for the Hebrew word for “Lord” in verse 4 is “Adonai,” meaning Sovereign Master and Lord.
b. 5 Then shall He speak unto them in His __________ and vex them in His sore
When this verse speaks of God’s wrath, it is alluding to that time of the Great Tribulation and the battle of Armageddon, the “time of God’s wrath.”
c. But God has resolved…
6 _____ I have _____ My _________ upon My _______ _____ of Zion. (geographically, Zion = Jerusalem)
I have this verse circled in my Bible. He is speaking of the future, letting us know what He is going to do.
Look at that first word, yet. The King is not yet there, but God says, “I’m going to put My King upon My holy hill.” You can hear the determination in this verse. As written, notice it’s in past tense and in God’s mind, it’s a done deal.
I love the word yet. In spite of the ranting of the atheist, the scorn of the humanist, the ignorance of men, and the scheming of Satan, God is going to put His King upon His holy hill. When God has resolved to do something, the time for speculation is over. It is going to happen.
God uses the pronoun “My” _____ times verse 6. It reminds me of Psalm 50:12, which reads, “…for the world is Mine and all it contains.”
I have counted, and the words “I” “My” “Mine” “Thou” “Thee” and “Thine,” referring either to God or to His Son, occur 15 times in verses 6 through 9.
One time my wife Joyce and I were playing a game we hadn’t played in years: checkers. As we began to move those checkers around on the board, I moved my man into king’s row, stuck out my chest, and said, “Crown him. Crown him.”
You know, the kingdoms of this world are being moved around like checkers, but soon God’s going to move His Son into King’s row and say, “Crown Him.” And He’ll be King in Zion.
How many times have we prayed Matthew 6:10, “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”
Do you think God’s will is now being done “on earth as it is in heaven?” Look around at the crime, rape, murder, child abuse, and blasphemy. Do you think that’s God’s will? Of course not.
Do you think Jesus Christ would have taught us to pray a prayer that will not be answered? God is going to move Jesus into King’s Row and say, “Crown Him King!”
Will we have a “New World Order”? Before we will, some things must be put right:
The Church belongs with the Groom.
The owner belongs in the land.
The criminal belongs in prison.
And the King belongs on the throne.
Don’t you agree?
We will have a new world order when the King is on His throne. And that’s coming.
15 And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever (Revelation 11:15).
I cannot wait for the time until our Lord comes and we are going to have a new world order, when the church and Israel and Satan and Jesus all are in their rightful places.
When that occurs,
“Jesus shall reign where the sun
Doth his successive journeys run.
His kingdom spread from shore to shore,
Til moons shall wax and wane no more.”
Folks, it has a good ending, and we’re on the winning side.
