Be Natural In Worship

Ponder This

Sometimes we come to church and act differently at church. Sometimes I will be a guest preacher, and the host pastor of the church and I will be talking back and forth. Then he gets up and comes over to the pulpit and says in a low, deep voice, “Dearly beloved…” He talks like he’s got a steeple stuck in his throat.

Some people don’t like to come to church and hear people greeting one another. They think they sound like chattering birds in a tree. They say, “Be quiet. We have come to worship.” When you meet your brothers and sisters in Jesus, be cheerful, be happy. There is nothing wrong with that.

You may respond, “But I think we are to be still and know that God is in His holy temple.” There is a time to be still. But the Bible also says, “Shout unto the Lord.”

Ecclesiastes tells us there is a time to cry and a time to laugh. There are times when we are exuberant in our worship. The Bible says, “Clap your hands, all ye people.” and “Lifting holy hands to God in prayer.” There are times when we are to be on our face, on our knees with the Lord, but the point is—we are to be natural.
