Are you a bold Christian? Or are you a cowardly Christian? Here’s how you can tell: If you were arrested for being a Christian, would there be enough evidence to convict you?
Acts 4:13 says, “Now when they [rulers, elders, scribes] saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marveled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.” What is the basis of our boldness? Peter and John had been with Jesus.
The church once asked my dear sweet mother (who is now in heaven) to give people a survey. And bless her heart, she unloaded that assignment on me. I walked up to my first door and I didn’t want to knock. I was afraid because I didn’t know what was behind that door. I didn’t know what the person might say. And at that moment, this Scripture came to me: “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I [Jesus] have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen” (Matthew 28:19-20).
I went down that street with Jesus. You see, that is where the boldness comes from—knowing that the Lord Jesus Christ is with you.
