What is my responsibility to those that I lead to Jesus?

Your responsibility to those that you lead to Jesus is plain and simple: you are not supposed to leave them to figure things out on their own. You are not supposed to abandon them as orphans in the family of God. Jesus’ last command to His disciples was to “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations” (Matthew 28:19). We are to disciple others, just as our Savior—our Lord, Jesus Christ—made disciples of others.

To disciple is to teach or train. When Jesus was doing His ministry on Earth, He taught His disciples as they lived life together. He demonstrated how to think, speak, act, and live. We are to do the same thing with those we lead to Jesus. The difference is that we are teaching them to look and live more like Jesus, not to look or live more like us.

Are you making disciples of others? Are you teaching people how to follow Christ? Take a moment to examine your life and its purpose. 1 Corinthians 11:1 says, “Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ.” Will you be able to say that to the next person you lead to Jesus? You have a responsibility to take new believers under your wing, to read the Bible with them, and show them how to live a life that honors God and reflects Jesus Christ.
