  2. THE NATURE OF HUMAN NATURE (1 Thessalonians 5:23)
    1. We have a body.
    2. We have a soul.
      1. This is our personality, our intelligence, our humor: all of those little proclivities that make us unique.
      2. This is our mind, emotion and will.
    3. We have a spirit.

    1. Being lost is the condition of every man, woman, boy and girl without the Lord Jesus Christ. Being lost simply means to be without God.

      1. Genesis 2:17

        1. Death is not the separation of the soul from the body; it is the separation of the spirit from God.
      3. When Adam ate the forbidden fruit, he died immediately in his spirit, progressively in his soul, and ultimately in his body.
    4. What do you have to do to be lost?
      1. Nothing; we are lost by nature.
      2. We are born with a depraved nature.
    1. Salvation is not primarily getting man out of Earth and into Heaven. Salvation is getting God out of Heaven and back into man.
    2. Sin has separated us from God. This sin barrier is a wedge, a chasm, between holy God and sinful man.
    3. Man is never satisfied. We have a void in our spirit caused by our separation from God, and we are constantly trying to fill that void. We are trying to reach God; though, we often do not realize that it is God we are seeking. But we keep bouncing off that sin barrier.
    4. Sin is coming short of the glory of God. Sin is everything in us that is not like God.
      1. Romans 3:23
    5. The fact that we have sinned and that sin has separated us from God has not stopped God from loving us.
      1. Romans 5:8
    6. God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit planned a means of salvation for us. God the Son - the Lord Jesus Christ - left Heaven and came to this Earth to be the sacrifice for us.

        1. The word “believe” in this verse of Scripture literally means “trust”.
      2. Jesus cannot be our Savior if we are not willing to make Him Lord.
        1. Surrendering to Jesus’ Lordship means that He takes control of our lives.
    10. Once we are saved, God begins to work in us, making us into the persons He wants us to be.

    11. Once we are saved, we are justified immediately in the spirit, sanctified progressively in the soul, and glorified ultimately in the body.

    2. When we trust Jesus, as the Bible states, then we are saved.
